The Challenge
Children in developing countries are forced to make difficult choices to assure their survival.
These children do not belong to football clubs, participate in dance or gymnastics classes, study piano or take leisurely bike rides with friends.
They do not own a single toy, or any possessions apart from the clothes they are wearing. They sleep on dirt floors surrounded by family and relatives.
These children shoulder the same burdens and responsibilities as adults.
What They Face
Many children do not have the money required each academic year for mandatory school uniforms, school fees, books…or even a pencil. Rather than going to school, older children care for young siblings and provide labor.
Children collect and carry water. They scrounge for food. They search for wood and discarded pieces of charcoal to make a fire to boil water. Pressure to provide enough food for everyone means that young girls are often involuntarily placed into early marriages, or worse, forced to use sex as a commodity to trade for food or money.
WE CAN CHANGE THIS. LET’S GIVE THESE CHILDREN BACK THEIR CHILDHOODS.
Many children across the world have lost parents and family to war, militants, starvation and disease. The common denominator among all of them is the constant focus on food and survival. This is everyday life.
